INDIGENOUS & LOCAL ENGAGEMENT

Respect Starts
with Understanding.

Mineral exploration takes place within lands, communities and regulatory environments that require careful consideration, respectful communication and responsible field practices.

OUR APPROACH

Exploration Takes Place
in a Broader Context.

BARIN Mineral recognizes that mineral exploration in British Columbia takes place within a complex landscape of Indigenous rights and interests, local communities, land use, environmental considerations and regulatory requirements.

As exploration activities progress, these factors need to be understood and incorporated into project planning and decision-making.

Our approach is to learn about the context of each project area, understand applicable requirements and engage appropriately as activities advance.

INDIGENOUS CONTEXT

Understanding the
Project Area Comes First.

Before advancing exploration activities, BARIN Mineral considers the Indigenous context of the project area and the potential relationship between proposed activities, land use and Indigenous rights and interests.

The appropriate approach can vary depending on the location, nature and stage of exploration activities.

Where engagement processes or consultation-related requirements apply, BARIN Mineral intends to participate respectfully and in accordance with applicable requirements and project circumstances.

OUR PRINCIPLES

Respect.
Clarity.
Responsibility.

01

UNDERSTAND

Learn about the Indigenous, community, land-use and regulatory context surrounding a project area.

02

COMMUNICATE

Support clear and respectful communication appropriate to the stage and nature of exploration activities.

03

MINIMIZE IMPACT

Plan field activities with consideration for land, water, access, cultural values and environmental disturbance.

04

FOLLOW THROUGH

Address commitments, requirements and project responsibilities as exploration activities progress.

LOCAL CONTEXT

Exploration Is
a Local Activity.

Exploration programs can interact with local communities, land users, businesses, contractors and service providers.

BARIN Mineral recognizes the value of understanding local conditions and maintaining professional relationships with people and organizations connected to the areas where exploration takes place.

Where practical and appropriate, local knowledge, services and capabilities may contribute to safer and more effective exploration programs.

PROJECT PLANNING

Engagement Evolves
with Exploration.

01

EARLY REVIEW

Understand location, land context, available information and potential considerations.

02

FIELD PLANNING

Consider access, proposed activities, environmental conditions and applicable requirements.

03

FIELD ACTIVITIES

Operate responsibly and communicate appropriately according to project circumstances.

04

ADVANCING EXPLORATION

As project activities become more substantial, engagement, permitting and other responsibilities may also increase.

The level of engagement appropriate to an exploration project can change as the nature and intensity of proposed activities evolve.

BRITISH COLUMBIA

Working Within
the Regulatory Framework.

Mineral exploration activities in British Columbia are subject to applicable laws, regulations, permitting processes and land-use requirements.

Certain exploration activities may require government authorization and may involve Crown consultation with potentially affected Indigenous Nations.

BARIN Mineral is responsible for understanding and complying with requirements applicable to its exploration activities.

IN THE FIELD

Respect Should Be
Visible in the Work.

Responsible exploration includes practical field behaviour.

Depending on the project and activity, this may include consideration of access routes, vegetation, water, waste, sampling locations, disturbance, wildlife, cultural values and reclamation requirements.

Field programs should be planned and conducted with appropriate care for the surrounding environment and land users.

ENVIRONMENTAL RESPONSIBILITY

OUR COMMITMENT

Listen.
Learn.
Act Responsibly.

BARIN Mineral is committed to developing its exploration activities responsibly as the company and its projects grow.

Our approach is to remain informed, communicate respectfully, comply with applicable requirements and continuously improve how social, environmental and land considerations are incorporated into exploration decisions.
